With the recent reveal of Quan Chi, we were also surprised with the reveal of our next kameo fighter, Khameleon. In case you’re unfamiliar with the multi-female ninja changing kombatant, here’s a little background.
Who is Khameleon?

Khameleon made her debut as a secret character in the Nintendo 64 version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy, while the PC, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn versions instead had Chameleon, a similar male character. After being absent for a long time she made her return in the Nintendo Wii version of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon with a new design. In the new timeline, Khameleon is a member of Umgadi under the leadership of Tanya.
With this in mind, her inclusion as a Kameo fighter in Mortal Kombat 1 was welcomed by many, even if they had to wait a little while for her release and pay a few bucks for her.
As is the case with all DLC characters, Khameleon will need to be unlocked before players can use her as their Kameo fighter. For those who have already purchased the Kombat Pack or the Premium Edition of the game, this is a simple case of heading to their platform’s digital storefront and selecting Khameleon, whose price should be set to zero. Those who don’t have the Kombat Pack installed will need to purchase her for about five bucks.
How To Play the Khameleon Kameo
The way that Khameleon works in MK1 is similar to how the Tremor kameo works. With Tremor, you can cycle through his various forms using the kameo button but Khamelon cycles through her disguises automatically, about every 6 seconds. The current ninja who Khamelon is using can be determined by looking at the icon next to her kameo bar.
Khameleon’s disguises are Jade, Kitana, and Mileena. Each disguise gives you two unique moves for each of the female ninjas.
Jade disguise gives your main fighter the iconic boomerang, which operates basically the same as Sareena kameos. It also gives you Jade’s glow, allowing to evade damage from projectiles.
Kitana disguise provides you with the classic fan projectile, which is a mid. Khameleon as Kitana also providers your fighter with a fan lift, which catapults your main fighter into the air straight towards your opponent. It can be controlled to lift you close, mid screen, or far, allowing for some pretty sick full screen combos that weren’t possible before with some characters like Rain.
Mileena disguise allows you to use Mileenas ball roll and aerial sai attacks. Ball roll is very fun and easy to use and the sais are a great anti air similar to the Sonya kameo’s air punch.
Final thoughts on Mortal Kombat 1 Kameleon kameo
After actively using Kameleon for a few hours on her release day, we are not disappointed with her as a kameo at all! Players all around the world are praising NRS for a great job on the new kameo, but while she is indeed a powerful assist, there is a big learning curve involved with learning her because you can’t manually switch her disguise. Every combo that you come up with has to be timed precisely, which makes her somewhat of a difficult kameo to use. On the other hand, the moves that she has can kind of just be “thrown out there”, similar to Sareena or Frost. With that being said, I would recommend using Khameleon just like that. Don’t try to make over complicated combos or anything. Just use her tools as “throw out there” projectiles and assists. Trying to incorporate her into big combos can be quite difficult and a lot to think about when actually fighting someone!
Khameleon in the Kommunity
It looks like there is generally positive feedback about the new kameo character on social media. Users around the world have had nothing but good things to say about Khameleon and have already came up with some dope combos using all three of her stances.
This one is wild
