Today, we’re diving into a tier list of Mortal Kombat 1’s most annoying characters to fight online. We’re talking about the characters that make you want to throw your controller through the screen—the ones whose moves, damage output, and overall kits make them a nightmare to go up against.
After spending nearly 1000 hours in the game, we feel like we’ve got a good grasp on which characters are the most frustrating to face. This list is based purely on my personal experience, so keep in mind that opinions may vary. Let’s get into it!
Tier List Categories:
- Super Annoying: Characters that are a nightmare to fight against.
- Annoying: Still frustrating, but not as bad.
- Bearable: They have their moments, but they’re manageable.
- Chill: A fair fight with no major annoyances.
Super Annoying Characters
Johnny Cage

- Why: Johnny is a beast. His frame data, instant 50/50s, damage output, and ease of combo execution make him a menace. He can poke you out of almost anything and stay safe while doing it. Fighting a good Johnny Cage is pure pain.
Kenshi

- Why: Kenshi’s combos, mix-ups, and use of Sentō to create a sandwich effect make him a nightmare. He freezes you, combos off of it, and keeps you guessing the whole time. It’s a headache trying to keep up with his relentless offense.
General Shao

- Why: With his devastating mix-up game, long-range pokes, and high damage output, General Shao is another one who ranks high on the annoyance scale. His versatility and synergy with various kameos make him incredibly tough to deal with.
Tanya

- Why: Tanya’s mix-ups, speed, and overall kit make her a huge threat. She has it all—projectiles, armor-breaking moves, and great damage. If you’re up against a skilled Tanya, prepare for a tough time.
Homelander

- Why: Homelander has everything you don’t want in an opponent. He can zone, command grab, combo like crazy, and his damage is off the charts. Facing a good Homelander is easily one of the most frustrating experiences in Mortal Kombat 1.
More (but less) Annoying Characters

- Ashrah: Great mix-ups, zoning, and damage. Fighting a top-tier Ashrah can be rough.
- Baraka: The chip damage he dishes out, especially with certain kameos, makes him annoying.
- Mileena: Her mix-ups, damage potential, and pokes can be a real pain.
- Scorpion: His poke punishes, spear, and zoning potential put him high on the annoying list.
- Peacemaker: Post-nerf, he’s less annoying but still packs a punch with his projectiles and torpedo move.
- Havik: A good Havik player can be devastating, though not as annoying as others on this list.
- Shang Tsung: His zoning and overall gameplay make him tough, but not unbearable.
- Quan Chi: His portals and ability to control the battlefield make him a terrifying opponent.
Bearable Characters
- Kitana: Overall, a bearable fight with some annoying moments.
- Kung Lao: A couple of annoying moves, but nothing too crazy.
- Liu Kang: His zoning can be frustrating, but it’s not unbearable.
- Rain: Rain’s mix-ups and trap setups are tricky, but the challenge is part of the fun.
- Reiko: His star-throwing can be irritating, but he’s mostly bearable.
- Reptile: His invisibility and mix-ups can be annoying, but they’re manageable.
- Omni-Man: He’s unique and can be annoying at times, but for the most part, he’s bearable.
- Smoke: Early on, he was super annoying, but now he’s more bearable after some adjustments.
Not So Annoying Characters
- Geras: Generally a chill fight, though he can be tough in the right hands.
- Havik: Powerful, but his kit doesn’t make him particularly annoying.
- Li Mei: Despite her long combos and good damage, she’s usually a chill opponent.
- Natara: Not much to say—she’s a pretty chill character to fight.
- Raiden: As a Raiden main, I find his kit to be bearable, with most matches being pretty fair.
- Shang Tsung: His zoning isn’t too annoying, and I usually enjoy the fight.
- Sub-Zero: He’s got tools to control the fight, but I find him to be a fun and fair opponent.
- Takeda: Despite his long reach, he’s a balanced character and generally not too annoying.
